Precautions with De-Icing Salt
Salt is a corrosive material and can be aggressive to concrete surfaces, vehicles, grass and nearby vegetation. Follow the advice on the package to avoid damaging your property and consult our guide on winter products.
Salt doesn’t offer much traction, especially on thick ice. If your challenge is to generate traction on an already icy surface, choose a non-slip sand instead.
While de-icing salt is effective in making outdoor surfaces safe, the best method to avoid ice build-up is to keep your outdoor surfaces clear when it snows!
