HISTORY
OF THE SHAWINIGAN
FACTORY
The Shawinigan factory was built in 1976
following a successful contract bid to supply concrete for the highway 55
bridge linking Grand-Mère and St‑Georges-de-Champlain. By building the factory
in Shawinigan,
Béton Laurentide Inc. was able to expand its market.
Equipped with an Alkon 2500
Series 68 dosage unit, the factory can
produce approximately 100 cubic metres per hour.
To allow production to
continue throughout the winter months, a 240KW electric boiler fitted with four
heating elements can be put into service regardless of weather conditions. To
facilitate the use of aggregates during the colder months, a 72KW steam boiler
is also available.
Located near Trois-Rivières
and operating largely as a stand-by station, Shawinigan
must rely on employees from Trois-Rivières, with the exception of the Batcher
and Sales Representative, who remain in Shawinigan
on a permanent basis.
